E-number E154 Brown FK, Kipper Brown

This is one of the more complex colors. The E154 has only one use; to give Kippers the right color! For that reason it is only allowed in Britain and Ireland. It is a substance that has 6 ingredients. A highly suspect brown mixture of six synthetic azo dyes together with other colourings and sodium chloride and/or sodium sulphate.

Found mainly in kippers and smoked mackerel but also occasionally in cooked hams and crisps.
